Hale Koa Wakiki- with KIDS! Do's and Don'ts

Note: Military only hotel!

Here are my tidbits:

1) The beach is amazing for kids!  Gentle waves where my 3 year old can sit in the surf and play without being SUCKED into the ocean.

2) Hotel food is pretty good!  The Breakfast buffet is amazing!  $18 per adult, but even if you wanted to save money and head to IHOP 2 blocks up-- it comes out to the SAME price!  Barefoot bar has chili dogs for $6.   Warriors lounge has a good happy hour.   There is a ROOM RATE with Breakfast Buffet, chose this rate!  Saves you money if you want to eat on site daily.

3) PX on site, and it's a good size.  We got cereal and milk for breakfast each morning when we wanted to save money.  BEER and wine selection!   Save $$- buy your liquor there!

4) Rooms are not that big...  2 beds, and a bathroom.   Patio is a good size, but of course you will need to watch the little's as they are out there.

5) Rooms have a small fridge and a the microwave is in the Laundry Room (on each floor).

6) pack in 3 day increments-  just do laundry!   2.25 per wash AND dry- so $4.50 a load.     But hey...  beats lugging tons of clothing to HI!   You can pack all your stuff in a carry on!

7)  Buy pool toys at the PX, then just give them to another family when you leave.  I love paying it forward!

8) Mom's- head down to the Hilton Next door, go into the bar. Order the Hula Girl Drink-  vodka, cognac, grand mariner + other goodness.   You are welcome..

Day Ideas

Beach-
We went early morning or later afternoon when the sun wasn't so hot.   The sun is 10x stronger in HI, so 30 min increments are suggested.    We rented 2 chairs and umbrellas for $15-$20-- and made the kids come in the shade every half-hour.     We only spent 1-2 hours a day a the beach.
You can go from room to beach, to pool quite easily - with a drink in hand :)
Rentals- very cool toys to rent at the stand...  I recommend the 3 wheeled large trike!   goes on sand and water.. my friends saw turtles.
Older kids can snorkel.. you can go far out and there is reef.. people were super FAR out...  I doubt it was that deep.     Bring your snorkel gear!

Duck Tour-
I have a 3 and 7 year old, I wasn't going to hike DiamondHead like I wanted.  So we settled for the car that becomes a boat.  It was a perfect tour of Waikiki & Diamond Head (down low), then a quick boat trip out on the harbor.    Kids loved it!

Hanauma Bay!  BEST Snorkeling around, go early!

Pearl Harbor- need I say more.

So much more... Trip Advisor is your best friend :)

Can't wait to return next year!
-Cheers, Auggie

Disneyland in the Rain with kids- here is your Ninja packing list:

Rainy days are the BEST days to go--- no lines- literally you can walk on to everything!   How to do Disney in the rain: 1) Everyone in 2 layers.   (thermal for kids) 2) Ponchos for the adults!    $5 at Walmart!  Buy an extra for the stroller- cover it well when you have it parked.  3)  Towels- when rides are wet and you are NOT because of your 2 layers and poncho, you don't want to get wet right?!   So put the towel down and sit on it.  4) Mattress waterproof crib pads- to cover legs of kid in stroller!    You see the purple rain boots- those are my 4 year olds.   Mattress pad (the baby ones at Walmart that fit a crib) over his legs.  Poncho on top. 5) Waterproof shoes for ALL!   (double socks) 6) a GOOD Weather app that tells you when RAIN is going to start.   We figured out the heavy rain was coming at 11am-2pm--so we left to take naps during that time.  7) Change of clothing- in case you get too wet. 8) a GREAT attitude of adventure.  You will get wet.. you will.

The NinjaMom's guide to a Princess Alaska cruise with kids!

I took my 7 year old and 3 year old up to Anchorage Alaska and boarded the Coral Princess Ship in Whittier- we spent 7 days going southbound to Vancouver.   Here is all of my tidbits... the good and the bad: Lets start with the good: 1) The bed is the MOST comfortable thing ever!  I wanted to take it home, my happy place was IN BED on the boat!  They even have a flyer that talks about the amazing mattresses!   (on my Christmas list) 2) Nature!  Princess does the nature of Alaska right!  The Naturalist on board (Gloeta) was amazing.  The ship brought on Rangers in Glacier Bay National Park (Where only 2 boats get to enter a day and very FEW companies have access to this National Park) there were many bridge wildlife talks, and lectures on Glaciers and Whales.   Princess does an amazing job on bringing Alaska alive to you!   (No, you do NOT need a balcony.  I had a window, and it was perfect on deck 5.   If you can afford it, great.. but I chose to spend more money on excur

My Do's and Don'ts: Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim, Ca (you can bring wine)

**I get nothing for this post, I paid full price for our room. You know me, I am all about giving advice when traveling...  I hope this is helpful: July 5-7 we were at the 2nd Happiest Place in Anaheim, Great Wolf Lodge (GWL).  Holiday weekend, you would think to steer clear...NOPE!    Do it!!!!!! .. this is a GREAT vacation! Imagine a large hotel room (we upgraded to the bunk bed cabin style for the kids).  They get own section of the room in a themed bunk bed with own TV (it's a BUNK bed, just do it).    Imagine a HUGE water park with lots to do, and not long lines... because only those staying at the hotel can go to the water park.. the longest line we waited in for a tube slide was 10 minutes.    They  have a lagoon area for the tiny tots, a HUGE play slide area for the pre-schoolers, and the rest for big kids (48inches) and bigger.     Money saving tip-  get the cheaper room, and book 60+ days in advance.  I found rates for $175 a night!   That is half what I paid!
