We kicked off our Alaskan cruise with 3 days in ANC, and I fell in love with the town. Here are my tidbits:
I did NOT have a car (I did not want to travel with car seats for 10 days--I traveled alone with my 2 kids while my husband was on a deployment).

- Use the People Mover- the bus system. (See photo below) Google Maps tells you exactly what to do. For a few bucks you get around. Go Google Maps!!!!
- Stay downtown! Do not stay in MID TOWN, midtown is 5 miles inland away from the cute downtown. If you do stay in Mid town, then chose a hotel next to the People Mover bus stops!!!! I had a half mile walk each time we used the bus. So go ahead and Google Maps the People Mover stops, then you will see the hotels next to the stops! This will save you 20 minutes of walking (and worrying a moose may sneak up on you LOL). I believe a Hilton Garden Inn was next to a stop.
- The Alaska Museum has an amazing Discovery Science center. (photos below) $7 entry fee for a day long of fun! They have a bubble room, an art room, and science space. I cannot wait to go back!
- The pizza at Fat Phatmargim (sp?) is amazing. BEST I have ever had! I know I did not spell it right, but if you just ask for the Wood Fire Pizza place named after a bird, everyone will know! Do not miss this place!
- Glacier Brewhouse was amazing! Busy, but also great food. GREAT BEER LOL!
- No sales tax in ANC! You are welcome!
- Enjoy the walk... just walk around... a very cute downtown!
- Careful of moose! We arrived at 4am to our hotel and a Mama Moose and baby moose were running around.... they are HUGE!
- The Visitors Center is a wealth of information, be sure to stop by.
WE took the Alaskan Railroad to Whittier to board our Princess cruise ship the Coral. Worth every penny! I have another blog on Princess Cruising with kids: http://ninjamomhacks.blogspot.com/2017/07/the-ninjamoms-guide-to-princess-alaska.html
I hear the zoo is great! There is a free shuttle from downtown to the zoo that we did not take, we only had time for 1 thing and we chose the Science Discovery museum.
Can't wait to go back!
